Troop 895 Handbook
Welcome to Troop 895!
You are now members of a great organization: Boy Scouts of America. The scouting program began 100 years ago in Great Britain through the vision of Lord Baden-Powell, and has become a program rich with tradition. Troop 895 celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2007, and like the larger program of Boy Scouting, is dedicated to the growth of our Scouts.
Our purpose is threefold: build the characters of boys becoming young men, foster their sense of citizenship, and develop their fitness (physical, mental, emotional, and moral). We do this through a program that stresses boy leadership – planning and execution – in a variety of wholesome and adult-supervised weekly meetings together with an ambitious set of weekend activities, having fun while learning and taking pride in our accomplishments.
We have a dedicated group of adults that work to ensure that our Scouting program is a success. But their dedication is not enough ….. we need you – the parents – to help us in a variety of ways. The easiest way for you to help is to come to our monthly troop committee meeting, find out what events are coming up, and pitch in where you can help.
This information booklet contains the basic information that you should know about the troop, and about Scouting in general. More information can be found on our website, www.troop895.us. Scouts with questions should direct them to the troop leadership starting with their patrol leader. Parents should feel free to contact the Scoutmaster or Committee Chairman.
Yours in Scouting,
